On Sunday 10th December, fighters from Helsinki Medieval Combat traveled to Lohja’s Menneen ajan joulumarkkinat (Christmas Market of the Past) to entertain the crowds with a series of exciting single-combat bouts. This year, the market on the medieval church hill was organised in the spirit of Lohja’s 700th anniversary, and HMC was honoured to be a part of the festivities.

Shields were broken and gauntlets shattered, with HMC’s own Anssi providing entertaining and educational commentary during the fights.

Our fighters Arttu and Henri showcased sword-and-buckler, profights, and the triathlon (longsword, sword & shield and profight), while Miisa and Barbora dueled with polearms and sword & shield. In the second part of the day, Barbora and Henri also faced off with longswords, while Miisa and Arttu went toe-to-toe with sword & board.

After the fights, members of HMC met the crowd, letting them try on some pieces of armour, hold the weapons, and teaching them about the sport of buhurt. We hope to see some of them come try out the sport with us sometime!

We were also very grateful and happy to have former and current fighters Mirva, MT, and Lauri come to support the effort.
